Vaccines for the children

Posted on May 6, 2021

Rich nations could take an additional 2 months if they vaccinate children, and globally will require significantly more vaccine doses

Based on current roll out forecasts, the EU, US, Japan, UK and Canada will have enough doses for their adult populations between the summer 2021 and January 2022. If these countries approve vaccinations for children and infants, surplus doses will not become available for up to an additional 2 months. The UK and Canada will see the shortest delays, whereas surplus supply from  the USA and Japan  will not be available for another 5 and 7 weeks, respectively. Longer term, vaccinating children (aged 5+) globally will mean a significant amount more doses will be required, increasing the number of people to be vaccinated by 1.46 billion (an additional 37%).
