Infectious Disease Data Specialist

Data and Products team

Objective of the role: The Infectious Disease Data Specialist role is a key role within Airfinity working within the data team to produce insight and intelligence for our clients relating to different aspects of infectious diseases and biorisk. This role will focus on a wide range of pathogen, disease, and biorisk areas which will expand data coverage, inform research, modeling, and intelligence/insights. A major priority for this role is to use your expertise in geospatial data to inform data and technology products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with senior team members to expand our infectious disease data coverage

  • Annotate and enrich scientific information with metadata and impact metrics

  • Assess quality of annotations and research

  • Become intrinsically familiar with our proprietary life science database

  • Have a holistic view of the data core and how the data core could be expanded

  • Maintain accurate databases which have been cross checked by a wide range of sources

  • Identify new sources of data to include in the database

  • Complete bespoke research tasks on a specific scientific area with confidence

Skills and Qualifications: Essential:

  • Expertise and deep interest in scientific research, particularly in the infectious disease space

  • Undergraduate in life sciences, advanced degree preferred

  • Familiarity with relational dataset structure/willing to learn about data architecture

  • Proficiency in communication and presentation tools

  • Strong organisational habits and an ability to meet tight deadlines - deliver high quality outputs at pace

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience in using biological databases and data curation

  • Read, evaluate, and extract scientific literature

  • Working with relational and non-relational database technologies

Desired:

  • Experience working with geospatial data

  • Provide expertise in geospatial data to inform data acquisition, frameworks, and technology strategy

  • Knowledge and experience with bioinformatics

  • Comfortable writing technical documentation for experts and non experts

  • Programming skills in R or python

  • Experience in implementation of data management best practices

  • Applicants fluent in other languages strongly recommended to apply, particularly in Japanese, Mandarin, French and German
