Job Description:

We are seeking a front end developer to join our Brighton Engineering team. You should be self motivated and keen to learn.

About the role.

  • Implementation of responsive UIs web pages, including iterative design, page prototypes and bullet-proof HTML/CSS coding
  • Implementation of interactive charts and diagrams
  • Implementation of SPAs for the various product lines
  • Build a set of UI reusable components reusable across the whole website
  • Work on the state of art Agile development cycle, including pair-programming, code reviews, automated test and CI
  • An understanding of emerging Internet standards and technologies
  • An exposure to server side technologies and the integration processes

 

Skills Range:

  • HTML / CSS
  • Less, Sass or other CSS pre-processor(s)
  • Javascript
  • Version Control / Git
  • Responsive, mobile-first design and development
  • Experience producing markup that is supported across major browsers and devices

Preferable skills:

  • Experience with at least one popular JS framework, such as Angular, React or Vue
  • ES2016 or TypeScript
  • Experience of AWS and/or Heroku
  • Node.js experience
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation

Person Specification:

  • You are keen to learn new technologies and techniques and seek out new challenges

Data Scientist

Job Description:

We are looking for a Data Scientist that will help us extract intelligence from our Event Graph™ and various data assets to deliver data-driven products for our different sets of customers.

Your primary focus will be in applying natural language processing techniques, doing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction systems integrated with our products.


Specific projects could include:

  • Designing and building a system to identify the names of speakers in event descriptions.
  • Finding and matching identical events across different event platforms.
  • Analysing an event’s RSVPs and audience, and building a model to predict an audience member’s propensity to attend an event they have RSVP’d to.

Responsibilities

  • Selecting features, building and optimising predictive models using machine learning techniques
  • Applying ensemble of nlp techniques for entity extraction
  • Applying NLP techniques for entity recognition
  • Support the data engineering team in productionising and operationalising prototypes
  • Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner

Skills Range:

  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Random Forests, etc.
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, scikit-learn or Julia. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable
  • Great communication skills
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL
  • Experience with relational databases and data warehouses, especially PostgreSQL or Redshift
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Good scripting and programming skills in Python
  • Data-oriented personality

Preferable skills

  • Proficiency in using graph query-programming languages, such as Cypher or Gremlin
  • Experience processing data at a non-trivial scale

About the Role

  • Architect, build, and own the data platform at Airfinity, under the guidance and mentorship of the Senior Data Engineer & CTO
  • Proactively contribute to development and product discussions, highlighting challenges and opportunities
  • Carry out complex tasks with a minimum of guidance, you also have the ability to manage multiple complex and time critical projects concurrently.
  • Champion and mentor data quality best practises within the team, bringing a pragmatic data engineering culture to the table.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Experience & Skills

  • You have a project/app that has been released to the market
  • Experience ingesting and cleansing data at scale, from APIs, Datastores, or flat-files
  • Experience processing data at a non-trivial scale
  • Strong experience with Python and its ecosystem
  • Experience with some of these technologies:
    • Any RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, et similia)
    • Data analysis tools - eg SQL Query Engines (PrestoDB, Impala), OLAP & BI (Amazon Redshift)
    • ElasticSearch, Kibana
    • Data scraping (eg Scrapy)
    • Apache Airflow

What You May Have Experience With

  • Serverless architecture, Micro-services, or SOA
  • Spark (RDD, SQL, DataFrames)
  • A Graph Database (Titan DB or similar) or Graph computation (Spark GraphX)
  • A stream processing technology, eg Kafka or AWS Kinesis
